Collection: Tang Sword

Of the four official types of swords in the Tang Dynasty, the first is the ceremonial sword, the second the defense sword, the third the side sword, and the fourth the long infantry sword. What is commonly referred to as the “Tang sword” among the people today mostly specifically means the Tang side sword.
Evolved from the straight ring-pommel swords of the Han Dynasty, it features a straight, narrow, single-edged blade and exquisite craftsmanship, representing a pinnacle in the history of cold weapons. It exerted a profound influence on swords throughout East Asia.
As a symbol of the military strength and craftsmanship of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the Tang sword was introduced to Japan via imperial envoys and later became an important origin of the Japanese sword.
