What is commonly referred to as the “Tang sword” among the people today mostly specifically means the Tang side sword.
Evolved from the straight ring-pommel swords of the Han Dynasty, it features a straight, narrow, single-edged blade and exquisite craftsmanship, representing a pinnacle in the history of cold weapons. It exerted a profound influence on swords throughout East Asia.
As a symbol of the military strength and craftsmanship of the prosperous Tang Dynasty, the Tang sword was introduced to Japan via imperial envoys and later became an important origin of the Japanese sword.
